Get Your Puppy to Stop Chewing
Like human toddlers, puppies are also trying to explore the world using their mouths. However, unlike babies who are able to use their hands to grab hold of things, the puppies are totally reliant on their mouths. This can cause a serious frustration on the part of the owner because the puppy keeps in chewing on his personal belongings like shoes, the rug, the couch, and other items at home. But the great news is that you can actually train your puppy to stop chewing your belongings early on.
Getting a dog trainer will certainly help but you also need to be aware that the result will not come instantly. It is natural for the puppy to chew on your things and no amount of punishing will stop him from doing it. Punishment will only strain your otherwise perfect relationship with your canine friend because you are forcing him to act against his nature.
So what can you do then? Well, try to buy hard plastic items they can chew on because it won’t get destroyed. The puppy will love to chew on it so he will keep away from trouble when you’re around. Secondly, crate training is important at this stage because even if he has the toy to play with, he will not sit still and he will chew on other items when you’re not around.
