The time puppies start teething is usually a test of patience for both first time and seasoned dog owners! Puppies start getting destructive. Dog owners have to understand that this is because the pup is in a lot of pain and discomfort from the process.

What should we feed our puppies when they are teething?

Cold things really soothe a puppy’s pain. If possible, store his favorite snack or treat in the freezer. Your puppy might also enjoy a bit of ice cream (not chocolate flavored please) or an ice pop!

Chewy treats are also a great way for puppies to get the tense feeling out. Get those chewy bones that are bigger and sturdier so he doesn’t finish them up right away!

Hopefully, these little suggested snacks will help you dog owners get through this challenging puppy stage! Good luck!

We went swimming, tanning and just relaxing by the water! The kids as well as the kids heart went to try out all the rides! They had super fun just trying anything they could find!

Every puppy needs to go through the “teething stage” wherein his deciduous or baby teeth will be replaced by stronger teeth. Similar to humans, the teeth that grow during this period will become permanent. Teething helps relieve the discomfort associated with the replacement, it is natural and you should not interfere with the process.

However, as every pet owner knows, their canine friend will be struggling during this stage because of the discomfort associated with it. This can pose a problem for the pet owner because the puppy will chew on everything anything. Below are some tips that will enable you to help your puppy during this time:

1. Hide or get rid of anything that is tempting to him– the puppy will be tempted to chew of items including your shoes and electrical wiring.

2. If you discover bite marks on important items including books, don’t immediately shout at him unless you catch him in the act of chewing. If you do, he will have no idea about why you’re so angry at him.

3. Give him a mouth massage – this is a great way to soothe some of the discomfort. Sit behind the puppy and then support his chin with one hand and then stroke the outside of the mouth in another.

Like human toddlers, puppies are also trying to explore the world using their mouths. However, unlike babies who are able to use their hands to grab hold of things, the puppies are totally reliant on their mouths. This can cause a serious frustration on the part of the owner because the puppy keeps in chewing on his personal belongings like shoes, the rug, the couch, and other items at home. But the great news is that you can actually train your puppy to stop chewing your belongings early on.

Getting a dog trainer will certainly help but you also need to be aware that the result will not come instantly. It is natural for the puppy to chew on your things and no amount of punishing will stop him from doing it. Punishment will only strain your otherwise perfect relationship with your canine friend because you are forcing him to act against his nature.

So what can you do then? Well, try to buy hard plastic items they can chew on because it won’t get destroyed. The puppy will love to chew on it so he will keep away from trouble when you’re around. Secondly, crate training is important at this stage because even if he has the toy to play with, he will not sit still and he will chew on other items when you’re not around.

Like barking and biting, whining comes naturally for dogs, especially puppies when they are not yet trained. Puppies love to whine if it gets them what they want. If this continues on, and they become spoiled, it will become a habit. Here are three good ways to stop whining:

1. Ignore your pup when it whines. Responding to unnecessary whine will make your puppy think its okay to do it. A month old puppy is better able to help itself than a month old baby, so do not treat it like a baby.

2. Behaving dogs should be praised. This will encourage him to be quiet because of the praise it is given. Also, if the pup is obedient, feed him snacks or give him toys.

3. Slowly train you dog about separation. Everyone hates to be left out. The same is true to dogs. What you should do is put it outside, but constantly visit it several times. This will reassure him that the separation is temporary.

There are some exceptions on reacting to whining puppies because it might be really hurt. If it is not a whiner and it suddenly whines, he may be having trouble with something. Eating and relieving itself then whining may be due to some disorders. It is better to take it to the vet.

Your puppy needs his own personal crate unless it has its kennel outside the house. But crates are better especially for puppies since it can also be used to train them into becoming more obedient. What more, you will need crates when you go traveling with your pup. Only dogs in a crate are allowed to stay in hotels and planes.

Remember that crates are never to be used as punishment to confine your pup. This will make it afraid of entering the crate. Teach your pet to love its crate, here are a few tips:

· 1. Put small amounts of food inside the crate. You can also feed the dog inside, or if he doesn’t follow, give him food near it.

· 2. When the dog enters, praise him for it so it will be encouraged to do it more often. Never force the pup because it will be afraid next time.

     3. At the start of crate training, do not leave your dog alone. Stay with him and only leave him inside for a short time.

There are also important reminders to keep in mind:

· 1. Take off the dog’s collar.

· 2. Hot weather is not a good time to crate a dog.

· 3. Your dog should have pooped before confining him in the crate.
