Avoid Dog Bites: A Guide For Owners
As dog owners, it is part of our responsibility to see to it that our dogs do not inflict harm on others. We need to do our part to make sure our dogs do not bite innocent bystanders, family, and friends.
Here are some things that we can all do!
1.Make sure to restrain your dog- Keep him on a leash when in public, and enclose your dog in a secure fence if you plan to leave him outdoors.
2.Make your dog get used to socializing- It is best to start this when your dog is still a puppy. Sign up for puppy classes, or introduce him to new people, other dogs and other animals all the time.
3.Neuter your dog- many dog bites are caused by male dogs. When they are neutered, the can lose their territorial instincts.
4.Train the dog not to bite- It is possible to train dogs to refrain from biting. When he starts biting or chewing, you can try to distract your dog.
5.Keep your eye out on your dog- Always see if your dog is getting agitated and irritated- this is what usually leads him to biting. When he starts growling and snapping, take him out of the situation.
